Smart People….
Apart for erm... disliking guys... I believe I also dislike smart people. They are like so insensitive to commoners like us. Not all of course… jus those insensitive ones.. Okok… in case you guys are thinking “wah lau this yingying is smart also wad. So superficial”. I amNOT smart hor. I jus always wanted to be smart only, actual fact is that I am just above average, if you wanna define my level of intelligence that is. And even if by your definition I am smart, that is because I got study hard hor. If you also studied very hard and smart, you all will do well also one ma. Ok I sound like so arrogant now and all my friends are stupid.. but i'm not! *innocent look*
Ok back to smart people.. Perhaps we more or less know who the smart ones in our own specialization are. It’s amazing how sometimes they are able to ans the prof’s qn so eloquently and fluently. And I admire them for that. Even when they do well during exams, they deserve it cos they worked hard for it.
But there will be jus some smart ones who like to give people the impression that they are actually not very smart. What do I mean? Read the conversation below:
Scenario: Outside exam hall, after accounting paper
Me: “Oh no… I think the paper was quite hard. I couldn’t finish on time cos I forgot my watch! And I couldn’t see the clock so cannot gauge the time properly!”
Smartass: “Yar lor Ialso thought the paper was very difficult. I think I will fail.”
Me: “Aiya, no matter what can’t be worse than me right.. I left out a whole 25 marks question lor.”
Smartass: “No lar, I definitely will do worse than you.”
Me: “Please lar how can that be? If you fail den I wad? You finished all the questions right?”
Smartass: “Yar, but still…”
Me: (silently) “Stilll wad?? &#@^* ^&$@( "
Me: “You are smart lar nothing will happen to you.”
Smartass: “No lar, I’m jus always lucky to get good results… (yeah right luck is always with you) Aiya.. I’m sure you will do better than me one lar. Dun worry.”

Don’t you think this smartass is blardy insensitive? I would rather he/she do this….

Smart n kindhearted: “Aiyo how come so suay! But don’t worry too much lar, most prob many ppl also couldn’t finish it..”
Me: “How can so many ppl not finish on time?”
Smart n kindhearted: “it’s a well known fact that many ppl cant finish one ma, but even if they finish doesn’t mean its good quality work. Your 3 essays might jus win their 4 essays also.”
Me: “of course you can say so lar… you are smart wad…”
Smart n kindhearted: “You think like tt will only make u feel miserable lor. It’s already over no point comparing. Might as well as jus concentrate on the next paper.”

See! Who would you prefer talking to? Yes I know that in both cases, the smart person has no intention to put u down, in fact he/she is jus trying to make you feel better by putting him/herself down in the first case. But by doing so, he/she has indirectly made us even more upset and we start to think that this person is darn hypocritical.
Sometimes, when you are good at sth, jus admit it. Don’t try n act humble cos it will backfire and make you seem like a fake person. But dun be proud about it too. Jus always put yourself in other people’s shoes and think about how they will feel if you start trying to be humble. Being humble doesn’t work all the time.
