English Lesson (1)

Do you know when to use present perfect tense and simple past tense? All of us learnt this before in pri sch, but I believe many of you have already forgotten what tense to use. Look at the two sentences below:

(1) I have just finished my work.
(2) I finished my work yesterday.

When to use ‘have finished’ and when to use ‘finished’? The trick lies in identifying the time the event took place. When the time is not specified, use present perfect tense. When the time is specified (yesterday, 2 days ago), then use simple past tense. Simple past tense is also used after the word ‘wish’. E.g. I wish I had a car.

TaDa! A meaningful lesson learnt for the day. Tomorrow will be simple present tense and present continuous tense.
